01 / The brief

What they needed

Record Store Day UK needed a public home that could carry a year-round campaign, not only one Saturday in April.

Record Store Day is the day when independent record shops across the UK and Ireland come together to celebrate their culture. The live site states that hundreds of shops take part, with exclusive vinyl releases, events and a community that runs well beyond the day itself.

Fans need to find a local shop, browse exclusive release lists, follow news and sign up to MyRSD. Shops and labels need clear routes to take part. Partners and press need a credible public face for the campaign.

The brief was a working national platform: campaign storytelling on the surface, practical tools underneath, and room for lists, news and seasonal moments such as Black Friday exclusives.

02 / What we did

How we approached it

We designed and built the public Record Store Day UK site as a campaign platform fans and shops can use all year.

  1. 01

    Campaign first

Lead with the celebration of independent record shops across the UK and Ireland, and make the next step — join MyRSD or find a store — obvious.

  2. 02

    Find a shop

A store locator and shop directory so visitors can find participating independent record shops near them.

  3. 03

    Exclusives and lists

Space for official RSD exclusive lists, Black Friday and monthly exclusives, archives and related listening, kept current as catalogues change.

  4. 04

    MyRSD and take part

Account journeys for fans, plus clear paths for shops, labels and partners who want to take part or work with the campaign.

03 / Who it is for

The people the site has to serve

A site only works when each audience can find their path without a guided tour.

  • Music fans

People looking for shops, exclusive releases, news and a way to join MyRSD before and after the day.

  • Independent record shops

Participating stores that need to be findable and to understand how to take part in the campaign.

  • Labels, partners and press

Organisations that need release lists, partnership routes and a credible public reference for Record Store Day UK.

04 / What changed

Outcomes we can stand behind

No invented traffic or fundraising figures — only what the project delivered and what we measured.

  • A national home for the day

The live site at recordstoreday.co.uk presents the campaign, shops, exclusives and ways to take part in one place.

  • Practical tools for fans

Store locator, exclusives lists, news and MyRSD sit alongside the campaign story instead of living in separate silos.

  • Year-round, not one weekend

Black Friday lists, monthly exclusives, archives and news keep the site useful between each Record Store Day.

  • Measured performance

Desktop Lighthouse on the public homepage scored 100 performance, 96 accessibility, 100 best practices and 100 SEO (17 October 2026).

05 / Results

Measured on the live site

Desktop Lighthouse scores from a run on the public site. They are a snapshot on that day, not a forecast.
